"Through the eyes there enters a  song that is born of nature for the  pleasure and edification of the soul without vain and morbid cerebralism; health, life, harmony..."

      Raymond Clermont (Paris 1975)

Born in Austria in 1946, Artist Georg Miciu-Nicolaevici was influenced by the teaching of his father, Konstantino, a graduate of Fine Arts of Vienna.  It was he who imprinted in him the simplicity and strength of Russian impressionists combined with the elegance of ancient Europe.

Georg traveled extensively throughout the Continent as well as North and South America.  Exhibitions were held in Jerusalem, Paris, Stuttgart, Barcelona, Granada, Buenos Aires, Palm Beach and San Francisco.

He presently resides with his wife and nine children in Patagonia, Argentina.  His palette-knife technique is unequaled.

 Oak woods!

Since my childhood, I was delighted by Slavic painters’ reproductions.  I contemplated the dramatic effect that they had created on the poetry of the oak woods of Tolstoy’s land.

Nevertheless, it was not in Russia but in Patagonia where I met them again.  And my contentment was profound at the moment I gazed at those oaks (American version) in a mountain frame.  These revealed the concealed impression of my early times, which was pounding in my mind from the cradle in my town in the Austrian Alps, Bludenz.

The roble pellin woods of the Andes, in the Lacar Lake area, seduced me with their wild virgin forest and privacy.  The first time I saw them, during my years as a backpacker, I felt the calling, which drove me to my “outward journey“, a long time ago, back in the 60’s.  I anxiously painted, but my palette was as green as the coihues, which challenged me…

Later I understood that I should not photograph but poeticize, in the same way as those Russian masters had done it before me.  Furthermore, I became aware that the skill of those who were in their “return journey“ was the fruit of hard work, contemplation and concurrence with other painters.  As I realized that my work was not enough, I completed my southern journey with other trips I made, in which I collected fifty Patagonian works of art; I took them to Europe.  At that time, in a period of six years, I had traveled around Argentina, bordering countries, USA and Mexico.

In Europe, Patagonia was a success.  This European period (six years) gave sensitivity to my plastic vision as well as the opportunity to exhibit my work, not only American but also European, in important art galleries.

I was delighted by the white Andalucía and by its golden light and I settled in la Vega of Granada, with my family, for three and a half years.  There, charmed by its people, I found the starting point in the search for the human figure in my landscapes, which lead to the prominence that nowadays it has on my canvas.

I frequently returned to Córdoba, Argentina, where I finally settled for thirteen placid years in its mountain range, whose warm harmonies shaped me as well as they had shaped great national masters (Quiros, Fader, Ripamonte, Malanca…).  There, having my expectations been fulfilled, together with my family, I settled at the bottom of the Southern Cross and, sheltered by the Andes, I worked in order to portrait the native, legendary and natural man, in time and space.

During my long journeys around the world I’ve lived and painted a large number of famous forest, such as Yosemite, Rain Forest, Yellowstone, Bavarian, Austrian, Franco-Swiss Alps, Valdiviana Forest and the wonderful and various woods of the Rumanian Carpathian Mountains.

Today, I consider myself capable of stating with knowledge that those, which surround my atelier in San Martin de los Andes, roble pellin, coihues, raulíes, lengas and ñires woods, are  original.  There is no comparison among them, due to the charming and defined personality of each of them.

Amid the exuberance and cloying of this vigorous scenery, that frustrates every painter, I discover great plastic potentials; above all, in the local customs scenes and in the austere profile of the Patagonian desert, endless, unique… like an ideal frame to the ancient image of the drover or the southern horse rider.

I think this is where I am now, maybe in my “return journey“ through the oak woods of the Andes.

“Through the eyes there enters a song that is born of nature for the pleasure and edification of the soul without vain and morbid cerebralism; health, life, harmony…”

                                                                                     Raymond Clermont
                                                                                                   Paris 1975

“…he has inherited his father’s vital interest. But at the same time, he has been gifted with a curious peace of mind, which always seems to place him far from any unpredictable vicissitude. He is a painter of rapid certainties, who expresses himself vigorously through thick and shiny oils. These are almost sculptural, applied with a palette knife. In that sense, the clean perception of his curious eye over the landscape is as sharp as his tool.”

                                                                                     Alberto G. Bellucci

Director of the Argentine National Museum of Decorative Art.

“…Georg devotes himself with his soul to the unique atmosphere of each landscape. He bows himself to nature. Nevertheless, he does not transform it through his artistic sensitivity, nor through his technical skills gained through a large experience. These statements have the authority and greatness that, for the lover of fine art, create the evidence of views and the aesthetic satisfaction.”

                                                                                              Robert Vrinat
                                                                             Les nouvelles Litteraires
                                                                                                  Paris 1975

“…It is important to emphasize that the colour in itself and in the way Georg applies it on the canvas, gives a sense of poetry to the whole piece of art: hence, some swift presence, only sensed, is glimpsed.”

                                                                                                 M. Urbano
                                                                                                  Jaen 1974
